PRODUCING A HEART OF THANKSGIVING
by Steven McMullin, Nov 21, 2012
THRPLGEW: (Philipians 4:8)
I like to call this verse of scripture the “THRPLGEW” principle, which is an acronym I like to use to help memorize this powerful verse of scripture.
Phil 4:8-9
Finally, brethren, whatever is True, whatever is Honorable, whatever is Right, whatever is Pure, whatever is Lovely, whatever is of Good repute, if there is any Excellence and if anything Worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things. 9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things; and the God of peace shall be with you.
NASB
Setting our minds and hearts to be aware of and to think on these eight things has within them the power of keeping us and our attitudes positively charged. There is a law of the spirit, it is the power of faith, for lack of a better term it can be called the law of attraction, simply put, we are created in God’s image, with His likeness, we have been given dominion in the earth realm to govern and to create.
This creative force works through our inner thought life and energy released from within us. Our thought life working through our passions, emotions, visions and desires cause the quantum field of the invisible all around us to react. This reaction will bring to us the things that our release of faith is putting out into that field. This law works whether we are (-) or (+).
In other words if we are focused on what is wrong, and what is bad, ugly, incorrect etc. and we release our inner energy and thought life toward that which is (-) we actually attract more negativity to us, and this has a “snowball” effect. If we are warriors, engaged in a spiritual battle, then we should be very wary of fighting from a place of negativity, i.e frustration, anger, fear etc. as this can actually cause “that which we fear to come upon us”. In this post election season let us not be unaware of this law, principle or truth, for it is functioning in our lives constantly, whether we “tune in” or not.
Our lives are the manifestation of our inner thoughts, they eventually create the world around us. The good news is that the positive always has a greater pull or power than the negative. We need to learn that our emotions can clue us into what our current polarity or charge is, if we are (-) or (+), so that we can sit effectively at the sheep gate of our thoughts and quickly evaluate and shift from (-) to (+) effectively ruling our spirits.
God has given us the privilege of being led by His Spirit and manifesting His love. In this abiding place of Righteousness, Peace & Joy, we have His ability and grace to be able to effectively understand the things “wrong” around us in society, and in the world, and to effectively gather intelligence regarding those things so that we might release intercession from the place of THRPLGEW. We can then effectively stand for righteousness, yet not be dragged into the negativity or turmoil that blows across our nations, for these winds (spirits) are strong and they desire to envelope us in them.
You see a Sanhedrin spirit (inordinate religious judgement towards outsiders, sinners, cities or our world without heavenly love coupled with an inflated sense of self, rooted in ego-pride) or Political spirit wants nothing more than to pull us into a lesser fight, a fight of frustration, fear or anger resulting from us not getting our own way. We must also understand that demons or unclean spirits are attracted to such anxiety and negative emotions because they actually feed on this energy, and will fuel that fire however they can.
Thinking or letting our minds dwell on “THESE THINGS” WILL PUT YOUR EYES ON JESUS, AND PRODUCE THANKFULNESS IN THE HEART.
When thanksgiving and praise are issuing forth from the heart, then it establishes a canopy whereby “The battle belongs to the Lord” and the result is “Peace”.
ARE YOU FOR US OR FOR OUR ADVERSARIES?
Joshua 5:13 Now it came about when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man was standing opposite him with his sword drawn in his hand, and Joshua went to him and said to him, “Are you for us or for our adversaries?” 14 He said, “No; rather I indeed come now as captain of the host of the Lord.” And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and bowed down, and said to him, “What has my lord to say to his servant?” 15 The captain of the Lord’s host said to Joshua, “ Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
This is a great word picture for us, we often want to know if God is “for us”, for our ideal, our perspective, or candidate even, or is he for our “enemies”?
The response to Joshua reveals a higher perspective and way, i.e. the Kingdom of God.
Joshua was told to take off his shoes; i.e. “his own way or previous walk” and to embrace something higher.
Good fight, Good conscience
1 Tim 1:18-2:4
18 This command I entrust to you, Timothy, my son, in accordance with the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may fight the good fight, 19 keeping faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and suffered shipwreck in regard to their faith. 20 Among these are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have delivered over to Satan, so that they may be taught not to blaspheme.
- A good conscience does not only mean being without guilt or shame or possessing a heart that doesn’t condemn us, but it also means; “to be consciously aware of the good”.
That which is Good and Acceptable in the sight of God
1 Timothy 2
First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
NASB
MORE FOOD FOR THOUGHT…
Rom 1:21 For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
-It was the lack of honoring God and their ceasing to “give thanks” that caused humanity to be given over to degrading passions. The word for “give thanks” in this verse is eucharisteo i.e. the eucharist, or the partaking of the body and blood of Christ.
Let us come to the Thanksgiving table on Thanksgiving.
A COUPLE THANKSGIVING SCRIPTURES…
2 Chron 20:20-23
“Listen to me, O Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, put your trust in the LORD your God, and you will be established. Put your trust in His prophets and succeed.” 21 And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed those who sang to the LORD and those who praised Him in holy attire, as they went out before the army and said, “Give thanks to the LORD, for His lovingkindness is everlasting.” 22 And when they began singing and praising, the LORD set ambushes against the sons of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir, who had come against Judah; so they were routed. 23 For the sons of Ammon and Moab rose up against the inhabitants of Mount Seir destroying them completely, and when they had finished with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped to destroy one another.
NASB
Ps 9:1-2
I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart;
I will tell of all Thy wonders.
2 I will be glad and exult in Thee;
I will sing praise to Thy name, O Most High.
NASB
Heb 13:15
Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.

Happy Thanksgiving.
